There’s a lot happening in K-12 education as the 2011-2012 year has just started and is now in full swing.
- Changes to the No Child Left Behind Act: See this New York Times article on the changes. Also, see information about Oregon’s proposed application for a NCLB waiver. This is big…but is it big enough? I’d love to see your opinions on this!
- Oregon’s governor proposed a new education board and ideas for how to get things moving in the Oregon education system.
- For those of you who have volunteered at King School, there was a recent article about the positive changes that are happening there.
This site is in its beginning stages. Check back soon for information on volunteer opportunities, stories from teachers/other volunteers, etc.
Also, please feel free to discuss any of these articles…this should be a forum for discussion and building our own critical thinking on education in Portland and beyond.
Excited to “see” you here and to share this information!
