How Would School Boundary Changes Impact Your Neighborhood?

How would you feel if school enrollment boundaries changed in your neighborhood?

Just sneaking in a moment to update you all on the 10/17/2011 Portland School Board meeting.  One of the items on the agenda that will continue to be of interest to community members and parents alike, I’m sure, is the issue of potentially changing some school boundaries and shifting student populations.  Of course, this boundary problem is connected to much deeper issues, and we will certainly see discussions on how class and race have played roles in the history of how boundaries have been drawn.  In fact, Judy Brennan, school enrollment planning director, stated that this could be “an opportunity to improve the baseline diversity in schools.”  See the following links to a follow-up article and meeting minutes, in addition to a place where you can submit your feedback on this potential boundary change in many local school districts.

I’d love to know if you all are for or against these changes and your reasoning…
